The article introduces a bilingual Vietnamese-English short story anthology titled A Rainy Night in the City, published by Hanoi Publishing House. Edited by Vietnamese writer Hồ Anh Thái and American writer Paul Christiansen, the collection features stories from multiple generations of Vietnamese authors, ranging from pre-1945 writers like Tô Hoài to contemporary voices such as Nguyễn Ngọc Thuần. It includes both male and female authors, portraying life across Vietnam—from Hanoi and the Red River Delta to the Central and Northern Highlands—as well as experiences of Vietnamese living abroad. Themes vary widely, including war, family, labor, memory, love, spirituality, and social issues. Stylistically, the stories employ innovative narrative techniques, sometimes blending fantasy with reality. The anthology is bilingual, aiming to make Vietnamese literature accessible to an international audience. Notably, the editors are donating royalties to support war veterans and victims of unexploded ordnance in Quảng Trị.
