When the war came, people’s life fall into complete chaos. And for children, it was even more of a challenge. They had to adapt to a hard life where most of their essential needs were cut short, which was particularly difficult for those from big cities moving to the countryside. Beside learning, they had to dig trenches and cellars for their own class, learned how to weave their own straw hats, and to cook their own meals... Apart from textbooks, they had to bring along to school a first-aid kit and a straw hat.

Despite all this cruelty of war, they were still good children and pupils. That proves the formidable will, endurance and heroic spirit of Vietnamese people even since childhood.

The book is special for it is the result of a kind deed from NDN (Nihon Denpa News) international television news agency Japan. NDN was the international news agency proposed to uncle Hồ to be present in Vietnam in order to reflect Vietnamese people’s just war against the American aggressors, and their proposal was accepted. NDN correspondents struggled with obstacles in all regions of our country in order to capture priceless footages and photos that presented those days in the fierce war and many of which reflected the life of children during the war. After so many years of close collaboration with Kim Dong Publishing House, NDN recently has handed over all stored documents about Vietnam in both negative and positive films, as well as footages recorded during the war periods.
