"This is such an interesting book that I read it as quickly as I could while still taking in all the nuances of language and the let’s hope not-too-near future of our world’s dealing with climate change and the loss of entire countries (and thus, languages). The reader pieces together knowledge of this new reality as the characters do, as well. It may be one of the rare books I read twice because I’m sure there were meanings and clues that would be evident in a second read.

With its intrepid band of companions, Scattered All Over the Earth (the first novel of a trilogy) may bring to mind Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland or a surreal Wind in the Willows, but really is just another sui generis Yoko Tawada masterwork.
