This book re-evaluates the role of “sexuality” in neoliberal societies.
The two authors argue that “sexual capital” not only provides advantages within the sexual realm, but can also generate tangible benefits in terms of money, status, and career opportunities.
The book outlines four types of “sexual capital,” including “default” chastity, the “surplus value of the body” utilized by sex workers, “embodied sexual capital” — that is, sexiness — and the emerging “neoliberal sexual capital.” It further explores the complex relationships among sexuality, economic value, and social inequality.
